What is the maximum I/O count SIRIUS can handle?
SIRIUS supports unlimited I/O points. The number of I/O points is restricted only by available hardware. However, SIRIUS license is also sold on the basis of hard-wired I/O count and therefore license, if not for unlimited I/O count, will also restrict the I/O count that can be handled by a SIRIUS installation.
Where does SIRIUS store its data?
For the storage of Real-time data, SIRIUS uses its in-house developed real time database for faster & efficient access of data. The database has support for SQL, ODBC, & OLEDB along with its native API. The database supports concurrency control, locking mechanism and data prioritization.
For storage of Historical data, SIRIUS uses Microsoft SQL Server.

Does SIRIUS support redundancy?
Yes, SIRIUS has the following features to support redundancy.
- Built-in Primary and Hot-Standby functionality for Servers, Communication Front Ends, Historical Data Servers.
- Database redundancy including alarms/events and history.
- Operator action redundancy.
- Automatic data synchronization.
- Automatic Switchover.
- Communication failure detection and Auto Failover.
- Automatic Bump-less switchover of all connected MMIs.
- Printer redundancy.
- LAN redundancy
What is the minimum Computer hardware configuration on which SIRIUS can run?
A PC with:
- Pentium PIV Processor
- 256MB RAM
- Approx 6 GB Free Hard Disk space (This requirement increases if offline-history is also be preserved)
What are the Third Party Interfaces supported by SIRIUS?
The following third party interfaces are supported by SIRIUS:
- OPC Client
- DDE (Server/Client)
How does SIRIUS help me in automating my plant?
SIRIUS can be applied to various process industries like Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Food & Beverage industries. Using SIRIUS the manufacturing process can be automated for monitoring and automatic/manual control purposes. SIRIUS provides various options to the user in different application areas of plant like, material management, production, and quality assurance. SIRIUS Batch/Recipe manager provides added functions to the user in managing product batches.
How does SIRIUS store data into its archive?
SIRIUS can store data into its database for archiving purposes both cyclically as well as on exception-basis. In case of cyclic archiving, data is archived into the database periodically as per the specified criteria. In the other case, data is stored into the archive only when that particular data has changed. This optimizes storage space and is more efficient than cyclic archiving.
SIRIUS also supports custom data logs into which data is logged through a program developed in SIRIUS.
How can I use the data archived by SIRIUS?
SIRIUS provides integrated support for viewing reports created using data from the SIRIUS archives. These reports can be like production reports, equipment maintenance reports, and shift reports. Reports can be created from SIRIUS archives using standard available software like Crystal Reports, Microsoft Excel.
Also, the same data can be used for trending on SIRIUS MMI. This way one can analyze/compare the behavior of a particular variable over different time periods.
Custom made applications can be built on top of the core functions provided by SIRIUS using its third party interfaces.
Does SIRIUS have support for developing application-specific logics and functions?
SIRIUS Programming Language (SPL), a C-like programming language built into SIRIUS, provides various features for integrating custom application-specific logics into the core installation. Typical uses of SPL are command interlock checking, startup/shutdown logics, etc.
SSS can also provide its services in building custom applications which can be integrated into SIRIUS. Custom made applications can be built on top of the core functions provided by SIRIUS using its third party interfaces.
Does SIRIUS provide on-line debugging of problems?
Yes, it is possible to turn the Trace ON various functions of SIRIUS. By turning the trace ON, one gets a console window in which the corresponding function displays its inputs, processing and outputs. By viewing these details, a knowledgeable user can debug various problems such as communication with a device, configuration problems.
What kind of technical support can be expected when a SIRIUS license is bought?
For system-integrators/end-users, courses covering installation, data engineering, run-time usage of SIRIUS can be arranged at our office in Faridabad.
For any commissioned installation of SIRIUS, technical assistance can be obtained by contacting technical support
Are Alarms/Events supported in SIRIUS?
SIRIUS provides an easy-to-use, flexible, configuration of Alarms/Events. Digital inputs are directly configurable for raising alarms/events on change of state. Analogs can be configured for alarm/event declaration on certain safety limit violations.
SIRIUS Man Machine Interface supports easy viewing of alarms/events. It is possible to apply filters to these lists. Also, the alarm/event lists could be sorted on time, event text and other types of data.
Does SIRIUS support Disturbance Recording?
Disturbance Recording is a Power Sector specific feature. SIRIUS does support viewing of disturbance data through COMTRADE files. The disturbance data is primarily captured by some IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) such as Numerical Protection Relays installed at an electrical sub-station, and transferred to SIRIUS using specialized protocols, such as IEC-870-5-103.
Does SIRIUS support Remote Monitoring and Operation?
Yes, SIRIUS specializes in Remote Monitoring and Control operations. Communication with RTUs/PLCs is established over communication channels ranging from low speed serial channels (typical baud rate = 600bps to 19.2 kbps) to fast speed OFC based channels (Providing speeds I the range of 64kbps – 10 mbps). Efficient protocols such as IEC-870-5-101 are used on slow speed channels for optimal use of the available bandwidth. All data is stored in a centralized server from where it can be displayed on multiple MMIs (Man-Machine Interfaces)
